Today the Amputee Coalition recognizes and remembers Senator Daniel Inouye. Senator Inouye passed away on December 17th from respiratory complications. He was the most senior Senator, having served since 1963, and is the second longest serving Senator in history behind only Robert Byrd. Senator Inouye was a WWII veteran who lost his right arm in combat earning the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Medal of Honor for his service.
